Niche Marketing

Are you a niche marketer?

Sometimes marketers engage in niche marketing without even realizing it. Let’s say you are running a mail-order wine club. You may think of yourself as a direct marketer, but you are also a niche marketer.

Why is that important?

Because you can easily find wine lovers and market to these individuals (rather than the general public, who may or may not like wine) which will save you time, money and effort.

There are many ways to find wine lovers, sports enthusiasts, dog owners, supporters of various causes or most other niches.

Track down people who are interested in wine by looking at:

  • Wine magazine subscribers
  • Wine newsletter subscribers
  • Food and wine blog readers

You can also buy lists of wine lovers/wine buyers…mail/email them directly or place small direct response ads in wine-related publications.

Buy Google adwords for select terms…create banner ads for related sites…and write articles on wine topics for your blog, other sites or print publications. Of course, you can optimize your site for wine-related keywords and bring in natural search traffic.

Some niches lend themselves to partnership marketing, such as a wine-seller teaming up with a bed and breakfast to sponsor a wine and cheese hour and provide tastings. The possibilities are endless.
